Dinner honors Libbys
Walter and Jeanette Libby of Mighty Street celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Jan. 11 at a family dinner at The landing in Windham.
They were married in 1947.
Attending the celebration were twin daughters Joanne Libby and Jeanne Kennie; two sons, David Libby and his wife, Sandy, and Walter Libby Jr., and his wife, Phyllis.
Others at the dinner were Jeanne Kennie’s son, John Kennie, and his fianca, Susan, with their children Owen and Abrianna; Jeanne Kennie’s daughter, Jeanette, and her boyfriend, Rick; and Marie and her son, Robert, and Katie.
Walter and Jeanette Libby have seven children, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Valentine’s Day dinner at First Parish
First Parish Church will host a Valentine’s Day dinner at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9.
The Rev. David Butler, the church pastor and chef-in-residence, will serve as chef for the “intimate candlelight” dinner, said church spokeswoman Lynn Kalloch.
The dinner includes live music, featuring jazz pianist Benjamin Bigney. Cost is $25 per plate, benefiting the church’s mission trip to Honduras.

GHS presents ‘Booby Trap’
The Gorham High School Drama program will present the one-act drama, “Booby Trap,” by Ed Monk, in a single performance on Friday, Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m., at Gorham High School in the McCormack Performing Arts Center
This drama takes place in an unnamed Eastern European country during a military conflict. The story centers on a young Army sergeant trapped by a land mine as he sits against a tree stump. If he moves he will die. As he awaits his fate, scenes from his past, present and future unfold around him.
Admission is $5 and tickets will be available at the door.
“Booby Trap” features senior Leah Hughes and junior cast members, Alex Faunce, Gracie Kilpatrick, Stephen Mackie and Katie Zarrilli. Rounding out the cast are sophomore Clayton Loubier and freshmen Jason Badeau, Brittney Fogg, Aaron Bartlett, Carolyn Lambert, and Matt Marean. Stage manager for this production is freshman Kasey Perkins and junior Kevin Wiacek designed the lighting.
These Gorham High School students will be participating in the Maine Principals’ Association Maine One-Act Drama Competition Regional Festival on March 9-10 at Cape Elizabeth High School. This will be Gorham High School’s second year participating in this prestigious competition held among Maine high schools. After the regional competition, advancing schools will compete at the state finals March 23-24. This year, the state finals are in Bangor for Class A schools and in Yarmouth for Class B schools.

Farrington chairs youth council
Rep. David Farrington, D-Gorham, has been appointed chair of the Legislative Youth Advisory Council for the 123rd Legislature.
Made up of three legislators and 18 youth members, the council advises the Legislature on policy matters, budget expenditures and legislation related to youth. The council has the authority to submit legislation, conduct public hearings and report annually on its activities.
Speaker of the House Glenn Cummings appointed Farrington to the council because of his experience as a teacher, coach and mentor for students in Maine.
“Rep. Farrington will be a valuable addition to the council,” said Cummings on the appointment. “His wealth of time in the classroom and on the sidelines as a coach show his tremendous commitment to Maine’s youth. Farrington’s energy, integrity and diligence will serve the council well.”
Farrington said that he looks forward to the opportunity to work with the talented group of students from across the state. “As a high school teacher I know that students have tremendous energy, insight and creativity, and the students who serve on the council are putting those qualities to work and making real contributions to the creation of state policy,” he said.
Gorham Grind to host social
Gorham Business & Civic Exchange invites the Gorham business community to join the group at the Gorham Grind, 18 South St. for its upcoming After Hours Social, Friday, Feb. 9, from 5:30-7 p.m.

The Gorham Grind is located in the heart of Gorham, providing a relaxing atmosphere with comfy couches and Internet access. Local artists works are displayed on a rotating basis, and live music keeps the place hopping.
