The Naples Public Library is having a very special birthday this year, its 100th.

Special events have been planned for each month starting with the Centennial Open House Celebration on Saturday, Jan. 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come and enjoy music, refreshments and gathering with old and new friends. In case of bad weather, all centennial events will take place to Feb. 3.

Sisters Lauren and Annamarie Scott will be lending their musical talent to the festivities with selections for violin and cello. A variety of photographs and library memorabilia will be on display and craft activities for the youngsters will be held upstairs in the children’s department.

The highlight of the day will be guest speaker Gerry Haviland, who in 1997, as chairman of the Naples Library Trustees was instrumental in the leadership of the present library’s renovation.

As current Trustee President Dean Zeilon said, “Gerry got the job going even before the funding was in place.”

Haviland has chosen as his topic, “The Charlottes of the Library,” and said people will have to “listen very carefully to find out what this means.”
