Town hall party time

A birthday party in town hall honored a trio last week.

Chairman of the Selectman Board Dan Collomy, selectmen’s administrative assistant Dianne Senechal and Arthur Harrison of the accounting department celebrated their birthdays with selectmen, town hall employees and family members. There was ice cream cake for all.

Credit union opens

TruChoice Federal Credit Union, intersection of routes 22 and 202, is celebrating its grand opening with a week of festivities that continue through Saturday.

The credit union officials cut a money ribbon and showed its building to a large public turnout last Thursday at an open house with refreshments. After cutting a ribbon created with $10 bills, the credit union gave the $250 in cash to the town’s needy in a presentation to Buxton Food Pantry President Gwen Hatch.

Diane Gray of Hollis is manager of the new branch and Tammy Ploufe, a Buxton native now of Hollis, is the teller. With security tightened by technology to prevent robbery, the branch features a remote teller system, only the second one in Maine.

Locked behind doors while performing teller duties, Ploufe, a Bonny Eagle High School graduate, will assist customers inside the credit union at the remote booths in addition to those at the drive through. Customers in the lobby booths will view Ploufe on a TV monitor during transactions.

Each of the two remote booths inside the credit union is equipped with a telephone for customers’ privacy. “They can do everything right here,” Gray said about the remote teller booth.

Buxton Selectman Cliff Emery, a credit union director, said Ploufe also monitors the lobby on a screen. The Buxton branch opened for business on Jan. 12.

The credit union will give away four iPods as prizes and $1,000 grand prize.
