ALR Inc. is proud to sponsor the inaugural Youth Ice Fishing Derby on Friday, Feb. 23 on Thomas Pond, Route 302 in Casco. The kids derby is designed for beginner anglers and is free.
The Derby runs from noon to 3 p.m. The first 500 kids ages 12 and under will receive an ice fishing trap courtesy of ALR and a tackle box from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to take home with them.
The event will take place on Thomas Pond adjacent to Alyssa’s Motel on Route 302 in Raymond. Vendors will be on hand selling food and hot chocolate. The motel will be offering parking, their garage as a registration facility, as well as Port-a-Potties.
In addition to the tackle, each child that catches a fish will receive a blue ribbon for their success. The DIFW will be stocking 400 brook trout in the pond for the kids and the holes will be pre-drilled by volunteers – this should ensure an afternoon of great fishing!
Windham Cub Scouts and the DARE program will be selling food and hot chocolate.
This event will kick-off the annual Rotary Club Winterfest & Derby. Following the Derby there will be a lighting ceremony for the giant dragon slide and ice sculptures at Point Sebago Resort at 5:30 p.m.
Please come and join us for what is sure to be a great day of fishing, family and fun. Pre-registration is highly recommended as organizers predict the event will sell out early.
ALR is supporting the “hooked on fishing, not on drugs” program in partnership with the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, the Sebago Anglers Association, and the Windham/Gorham Rod and Gun Club.
