The Lake Region High girls basketball team knocked off Cape Elizabeth on Wednesday, Jan. 10, by a score of 60-24.

The Lakers were dominant – especiqally defensively – holding their opponent to under 10 points in all four quarters. After the first period, the Lakers led 17-5 and their lead only grew from there.

Emily Rowbotham had 11 points to lead the team in scoring.

On Saturday, Lake Region was at it again when they defeated Gray-New Gloucester by 40 points, 73-33.

The Lakers stormed out to an 11-point lead after the first quarter, 22-11, and at halftime they led 35-18.

The second half was much like the first as the Lakers continued to pull away.

Christina Ricci led the way for Lake Region with 17 points. The Lakers now stand at 9-1 and will host Greely on Friday.

The Bonny Eagle girls picked up a win on Saturday against Cheverus, 53-46. The Scots built a 31-20 halftime lead and held on in the second half for the win.

Lyndie Libby scored 10 of her 22 points in the first half to help the Scots build what proved to be an insurmountable lead. Libby led all scorers.

On Tuesday night, the Scots were in action at Kennebunk.

The host Rams built a big lead and held on in the fourth quarter to down the visitors, 50-41.

Kennebunk led 24-16 at the halftime break.

Bonny Eagle mounted a charge in the second half, but the Rams kept them at arms length and the rally came up short.

The Scots scored 19 points in the fourth quarter but Kennebunk matched them nearly shot for shot.

Lyndie Libby once again led the Scots with 14 points as their record now stands at 7-4. They will host Noble on Friday.

The girls from Windham lost their contest with Westbrook last week by a 42-33 margin. The Blazes pulled way in the second half and cruised to victory. The game was close until Westbrook went on a 16-7 run in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles picked up their first win of the year Saturday against Portland, 51-37.

Portland built a 14-point lead at halftime before the Eagles mounted a comeback in the second half.

In the third qurater Windham erased the deficit and took the lead with a 23-7 run. With their first victory so close, the Eagles clamped down and made sure it happened with a 13-1 fourth quarter.

Allison Noble paced Windham with 17 points including 15 in the third quarter. Windham now stands at 1-10 and will host Thornton Academy on Friday.
