Local high school basketball teams have been busy recently as they head toward the home stretch of their regular seasons. Bonny Eagle, Lake Region and Windham’s basketball teams have all been fighting hard trying to find their way into the tournament.

The Bonny Eagle boys had their four-game win streak halted by Gorham Thursday night, 44-36. Gorham slowed down the pace of the game and kept the Scots from finding their rhythm.

The Scots were held to just 10 points or less in each of the four quarters because of a stingy Gorham defense. The Scots fell to 6-4 with the loss. They are scheduled to face Noble Friday.

The Lake Region boys lost a close one last Thursday to Cape Elizabeth, 51-50. The Capers used a strong first half and held off the surging Lakers to get the win.

At the break, Cape Elizabeth led 26-17 thanks to a 16-11 first quarter and a 10-6 second period. Cape added three more points to their lead in the third with a 17-14 run.

The Lakers bounced back in the fourth outscoring Cape 19-8. Unfortunately for the Lakers, they were unable to come all the way back despite the determined rally.

Todd Shigo led the Lakers with 16 points.

On Saturday, the Lakers bounced back with a big win over Gray-New Gloucester, 77-58.

After the first period, Lake Region led 17-15. In the second they began to pull away with a 21-15 run and they added five more to their advantage in the third. Chris Shane had a big night with 28 points for the Lakers who now stand at 4-6. They will face Greely on Friday.

The Windham boys snapped a two-game losing skid last Thursday when they defeated Westbrook 50-47.

The Eagles built up a 26-18 lead at the half and held on for the win. Things got tense toward the end of the game as Westbrook inched closer, but the Eagles managed to stay ahead of the Blazes.

Westbrook actually outscored Windham 29-24 over the second half. Fortunately for the Eagles that didn’t prove quite enough. TJ Tandberg paced the Eagles with 18 points as they improve to 4-5 on the year. They travel to Saco to take on Thornton Academy on Friday.
