The Biddeford girls traveled to Waterboro on Saturday evening. Massabesic and the Tigers went toe-to-toe in the first quarter, but it was the visitors earning their fifth straight victory putting an end to Massabesic’s three-game win skein, 57-39.

Emily Rousseau again led the way for the Tigers as she racked up 26 points. (Biddeford’s other top scorer, Aimee Mortensen was sidelined with an ankle sprain.)

The game was close early on before the Tigers took control in the second quarter. They outscored the Mustangs 17-4 during that eight-minute span to lead 30-17 at the break.

The third quarter was very similar to the second as Biddeford went on a 17-8 run. That effectively ended the game. Massabesic cut into the deficit by four points in the fourth quarter but that was the closest they could get.

Biddeford improves to 9-1 and will McAuley this Friday. The most recent Heal Point standings released on Tuesday have the Tigers at the top of the heap in Western Maine Class A.

The Thornton Academy girls lost a close decision to Scarborough, 44-41. Scarborough shut out the Trojans in the first quarter and Thornton had to play catch-up from that point on.

After one quarter, Scarborough led 10-0 and Thornton’s girls had a difficult task ahead of them. The Trojans racked up a 19-9 second quarter and headed to the break tied at 19-19.

The teams played even in the third quarter leaving the game to be decided by the final eight minutes of play. Scarborough used an 8-0 run to win by four.

The loss drops Thornton to 2-7 this season. They get set to face Portland on Friday.

The girls from Old Orchard Beach locked horns with North Yarmouth Academy over the weekend. Their result was much better than the boys as the Seagulls ended their two-game losing skid with a 55-34 victory.

The game was close throughout the first half. Old Orchard outscored NYA 10-8 in the first quarter. The Panthers cut that lead to just one point at halftime. At the break, the Gulls clung to an 18-17 advantage.

The second half was a much different story. The Gulls pulled out to a 10-point lead thanks to a 16-7 third quarter. They added another 11 points to their lead with a 21-10 fourth quarter and cruised to the victory.

Courtney Rague led Old Orchard with 16 points as her team improved to 4-6 on the season. They were scheduled to travel to Richmond to face the Bobcats on Tuesday.
