The Gorham Historical Society headquarters at 28 School St. previously served as town offices for about 75 years until the new municipal center opened in 1974 on Main Street. In 1868, this brick building housed the Gorham Savings Bank, which added a second story and a vault. The bank relocated to the Masonic Block in 1905. As a single story, it cost $750 to build, and first was an insurance office and then a library before becoming the bank, according to “The Way It Was in Gorham,” by Bertha Bridges Willis.
