Athletes from South Portland High School were busy this weekend as both basketball teams and the hockey team saw action.
The boys’ basketball team lost a tough game against Cheverus Friday night. It was the Red Riots first loss since the season opener and ended their five game win streak.
Cheverus took a four point lead in the first quarter and simply pulled away a little at a time. At halftime the Riots trailed by 13 with the score 38-25.
The Stags held South Portland in check over the second half and didn’t allow them to get back in the game. Coleman Findlay and Keegan Hyland both scored 13 points for South Portland.
The loss drops the Riots to 5-2 this season. They were scheduled to face Deering next.
The Red Riots hockey team lost to Deering Thursday by the final of 11-0. Deering recorded seven goals in the first period and two each in the second and third.
The loss drops the Riots to 2-4. They were scheduled to play Lake Region next.
