The Scarborough High boys and girls basketball teams saw action this weekend against Kennebunk.

The Red Storm boys lost 48-31 at home. It was their third straight loss.

Kennebunk pulled out to a 13-6 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Rams added another five to their lead before halftime and went into the locker room with a 23-11 advantage.

Kennebunk went on a 21-12 run in the third quarter and the lead grew too big for the Red Storm to overcome.

With the loss the Red Storm drop to 3-4 on the year. Chris Hughes paced Scarborough with eight points.

Scarborough was scheduled to face Biddeford Tuesday evening.

A combination of poor shooting and not enough rebounding doomed the Scarborough girls basketball at Kennebunk on Friday night. The Red Storm scored just 10 points in the second half as they fell to 3-4 on the season with a 41-25 loss to the Rams.

“We just didn’t shoot the ball well. It was one of those nights,” said Scarborough coach Jim Seavey.

Neither team put on an offensive show as Kennebunk held leads of 10-7 and 18-15 after the first two periods. But the Rams managed to pull away in the third quarter with the Red Storm adding only four points to their side of the scoreboard.

And when Scarborough did get shots at the basket they seldom had second opportunities with the Rams’ taller inside players grabbing many of the available rebounds.

“They packed it in and limited us to one shot,” Seavey said about Kennebunk’s defensive strategy. “They dictated the tempo.”

Christy Manning led Scarborough with seven points and six rebounds. Reegan Brackett added five points and Meaghan Myers chipped in with three.

The Red Storm defeated Windham, 60-48, Jan. 3.

Reegan Bracket led the way with 18 points, 13 of which came in the second quarter. She added four assists and four steals.

Scarborough used a full-court press to force 30 Windham turnovers.

“It’s something we have been trying to build on every day in practice. Tonight was a good chance to get a lot of kids on the floor and get them playing that style.”

Sarah Bonenfant, who had been out with mono prior to the Christmas break, scored 15 points in her return.

Jenn Colpitts had 11 points and five steals.

Scarborough hosted Biddeford (6-1) on Tuesday night.
