The Bonny Eagles girls’ basketball team hosted Scarborough Friday evening looking for their second straight win. And thanks to two late free throws by Messina Provencher, that’s exactly what they got. The Scots picked up a 58-53 victory over the Red Storm.
The Scots jumped out to a comfortable 11-point lead with a 17-6 first quarter. They maintained that lead going into halftime as both teams matched one another basket for basket in the second period.
Scarborough fought their way back into the game with a 19-10 third quarter and the Red Storm eventually took the lead late in the fourth period.
That’s when Provencher stole the ball with less than a minute to play and the outcome hanging in the balance. She was fouled and hit the free throws to reclaim the lead and the Scots added a couple insurance points for the five-point win.
Laura Bell led the way for Bonny Eagle with 17 points. The win makes the Scots 3-2 on the season.
They resume their regular season schedule against Massabesic Tuesday, Jan. 2.
Windham (0-6) was unable to crack the win column for the first time last week, falling to Class-A powerhouses McCauley (5-0) and Sanford (3-1).

Against Sanford, Windham was led by Ashley Corkum and Taylor Graves who scored nine points apiece. Graves had three 3-pointers.
Allison Noble was the top scorer against McCauley with 11 points, including three from beyond the arc.
Windham is back in action at Scarborough (2-3) Jan. 3.
