The Windham boys’ basketball team picked up its second win of the season last Thursday, defeating Sanford on the road, 66-54.

Senior TJ Tandberg led all scorers with 25 points, including nine free throws. The 6-foot-3 guard is averaging 19 points a game this season.

Windham (2-3) jumped out to a 34-22 halftime. Despite being outscored in the fourth quarter, their lead was never threatened.

Sophomores Nate Dixon and Ryan MacQueston chipped in 15 points and 10 points respectively.

The Eagles fell to Greely, 70-42 in the first round of the Maine Mall Holiday Classic Tuesday.

Tandberg again led all Windham scorers, this time with 22 points, including a trio of 3-pointers.

Windham was without two starters, Dixon and senior point guard Travis Guerrette. Dixon has been among Windham’s top scorers this season and at 6-5 is a force in the paint. In Guerrette’s absences Tandberg was forced to play point guard.

The Eagles closed the first quarter with a mini 5-0 run, but trailed 33-19 at halftime and never pulled any closer.

Greely (6-0) is the top-ranked team in Western Maine class B.

Windham played Oxford Hills in the Classic on Wednesday. The get back into regular season play at home against Scarborough (3-2) Jan. 3.

Lake Region’s Chris Shane almost single-handedly led his team to its first win of the season, 55-36, over Fryeburg Academy (0-6) last Thursday.

Shane knocked down six shots from beyond the arc, scoring 31 points. Todd Shigo added eight for the Lakers (1-4) who opened a 29-15 lead by halftime.

Lake Region plays at Falmouth Jan. 3.
