High school students honored
Eight Bonny Eagle High School students have been accepted recently for membership in the Foreign Language Honor Society.
Each student has earned at least a 90 (B-plus) in at least three levels of a modern or classical language offered at the school (Spanish, French or Latin). The students inducted in a formal ceremony were Ashleigh Higgins, Zachary Litif, Joey Marro, Krissy MacLean, Danielle Napolitano, Brittany Parker, Paul Roy and Katherine Way.
Dan Bennett and Paul Star, faculty advisers to teh group, praised the new inductees for their academic accomplishments, their enthusiasm for learning foreign languages and their curiosity about other cultures.
“We are indeed fortunate that we have so many students here at Bonny Eagle who are curious about the larger world and willing to work to better their understanding of it,” said Star.
The induction ceremony was held in the high school auditorium followed by a reception.
Toy box record success
The Toy Box program, which distributes toys and gifts for Christmas to children in needy families, received 72 applications this year.
This year marked the highest number of applications in the past five years. The average number of families served by the program, which has been in operation 12 years, is 60.
Citizens donate new, unwrapped items in toy boxes at several locations in Buxton. Volunteers pickup and wrap the gifts. Buxton police deliver the presents to families lacking transportation.
