The Cape Elizabeth and Falmouth High School boys and girls swim teams battled on Friday in Cape Elizabeth.

The Cape girls had first-place efforts from Rosie Wnnberg (50 free), Emma Logan (500 free), and Nora Daly (100 breaststroke). And the foursome of Nora Daly, Lilly Wennberg, Rosie Wennberg, and Emily O’Neil finished first in the 200 freestyle relay.

The Cape boys’ individual winners included Nick Daly (200 free and 500 free), Alex McFarlane (50 free), Bogie Foden (1-meter diving), Zach Gavin (100 butterfly), and Sean Campbell (100 free).

Cape’s 200 medley relay team of Peter Alexander, Alex McFarlane, Zach Gavin and Chris Bouchard combined for a first-place finish and the foursome of McFarlane, Chris Beringer, Gavin and Daly placed first in the 200 free relay event.

Scarborough swimmers showed their strength at last Friday’s meet in South Portland where the Red Storm boys and girls teams dominated the Riots. The Scarborough girls scored a 127-54 win and the Scarborough boys came away with a 142-38 victory.

The Red Storm won every event except one. South Portland’s one victory came courtesy of Joe McGreehan in the 1-meter diving event. The Red Riot junior scored 156.05 points to top Scarborough competitors Thomas Green and Sam Ledue.

The Scarborough girls got thing started by winning the 200 medley relay behind the strong swims from Sarah Reynolds, Brittanie Bradley, Hanna Flewelling and Elizabeth Couillard.

Individual winners in the girls events for the Red Storm were Nicole Harmon (200 freestyle and 100 butterfly), Hanna Flewelling (200 IM), Elizabeth Couillard (50 free), Gayle Bufo (1-meter diving), Allison Rogers (100 free), Sarah Reynolds (500 free and 100 backstroke), and Anna Wagner (100 breaststroke).

Scarborough had two other relay teams emerge victorious – the 200 freestyle relay team of Harmon, Couillard, Bradley and Rogers won their event and the foursome of Harmon, Bradley, Rogers and Caitlin Wright won the 400 freestyle relay race.

The South Portland girls had some fine performances from Katherine Ambrose (second in the 200 IM), Rebecca Braley (second in the 1-meter diving), Ana Bussone (second in the 100 fly), Meghan Gallagher (second in the 100 backstroke).

In addition, the South Portland girls relay teams placed second in all three races. Victoria Stiles, Kaitlyn Carter, Ana Bussone and Meghan Gallagher placed second in the 200 medley relay. Molly Bogart, Katherine Ambrose, Bussone and Gallagher took the runner-up spot in the 200 free relay. And Bussone, Bogart, Ambrose and Stiles finished second in the 400 freestyle relay event.

The Scarborough boys picked up individual wins from Nick Twomey (200 freestyle and 100 backstroke), Thomas Spencer (200 IM and 100 free), Kaycee Stevens (50 free and 100 butterfly), and Jon Russell (500 free and 100 breaststroke).

Winning swimmers from the Scarborough relay teams included Nick Twomey, Jon Russell, Ryan Whelan and Bryant Shannon in the 200 medley relay; Thomas Spencer, Peter Griffin, Bryant Shannon and Kaycee Stevens in the 200 freestyle relay; and Shannon, Stevens, Russell and Twomey in the 400 free relay.

South Portland’s top individual performers included Will York (third in the 50 free and third in the 100 butterfly), Nick DeHaas (third in the 100 free and third in the 100 breaststroke), and Taavet Kiidli (third in the 100 backstroke).
