South Portland improved to 2-1 on the season with a 48-34 win over Windham on Saturday night at Beal Gymnasium.
The final score isn’t indicative of how well the Riots played in the first half. South Portland’s full court defense produced a number of turnovers and their attacking style of play at the offensive end produced a 36-13 lead at the half.
The bench got some playing time in the second half as the Riots kep the Eagles at bay over the final two periods of play.
Christina Aceto was the game’s high scorer with 16 points. Jessica Aceto and Kelsey Flaherty both contributed seven points as eight different Red Riots got into the scoring column.
On Friday night, the Riots let a 28-17 halftime lead slip away as the visiting Biddeford High Tigers rallied for a 50-38 win.
Kelsey Flaherty finished with 13 points and Brianna Hawkins added eight.
Scarborough fell to 1-2 on the year after a 47-20 loss at Deering on Thursday, Dec. 14. The Red Storm was close after the first quarter when they trailed 7-6, but the Rams busted out for an 18-5 second quarter to take control of the contest.

The Falmouth girls kept the Cape Elizabeth squad winless on the season as the Yachtsmen earned a 59-22 victory over the Capers on Saturday.
Falmouth led 17-5 after the first eight minutes of play and 34-8 at the break.
Colleen Martin finished with five points and Samantha Culver and Tess Wiggins added four points each.
