This photo, left, of Main Street looking west from the area of Mechanic Street, was taken in the 1850s. The two small buildings to the right were demolished to make way for the three-story brick building at 901 Main St. This building served as an armory, canning factory and garage before being converted to its present use as an apartment house. The building to the left of it still stands at 907 Main St., and the building with the pillars was a Universalist Church, with a stove shop on the ground floor. This building still stands and now houses My Sister’s Closet consignment store. Most of the other buildings to the left were replaced by commercial buildings.
