Windham is one small step closer to having a four-story hotel.

Last week, the planning board accepted the pre-application sketch for the 80-room hotel at its Monday, Nov. 13 meeting. The hotel, from the Microtel Corporation, would be located on Route 302 across the street from the Seacoast Fun Park.

The accepted sketch is a bird’s eye view of the building’s exterior showing the layout. It was drafted by Engineering Alliance Inc., a civil engineering consulting firm with an office in York.

Community Development Director Roger Timmons said the next step will be for Microtel to decide how the proposed hotel would affect traffic in the area and what, if any, changes need to be made to the road. Stormwater issues also need to be addressed, he said.

Since Windham has no sewer system, the hotel is expected to use a sand filtration network, known as leeching.

As well as the 80 rooms, the approved plans include a 5,000 square-foot restaurant and a 10,000 square-foot office building.
