There are a number of former high school standouts who’ve taken their game to the next level. Many are competing at the collegiate level right here in the state of Maine.

The following is a list of some of those student/athletes:

John Harvey, a sophomore from South Portland, is swimming distance races for the Bates College swimming and diving team this winter. The team is 0-1 so far. Their next meet is December 2 at Trinity.

Colman Hatton, a freshman from Cape Elizabeth, ran for the Bowdoin cross country team this fall. His best finish was 3rd against UMaine Farmington. The team had three first place finishes. Hatton is also on the nordic skiing team. That season starts on January 19 at the St. Michael’s Carnival in Sleepy Hollow, VT.

Emily McKinnon, a freshman from South Portland, appeared in three games as a defender for the Bowdoin field hockey team. The team finished the year at 17-2-0 and was eliminated in the NCAA tournament by Messiah in the semi-finals.

Dana Riker, a freshman from Cape Elizabeth, started 15 games for the women’s soccer team at Bowdoin. She had three goals and three assists. She also notched 36 shots and two of her goals were game-winners. The team went 7-6-2 for the year.

Nick Kline, a junior from South Portland, will be competing on the Colby College nordic ski team this winter. Their first contest is the St. Michael’s Carnival in Sleepy Hollow, VT, on January 19.

Garret Currier, a sophomore from Cape Elizabeth, plays for the men’s squash team at Colby. The team is off to a 1-3 start. Their next match will be January 6 against Yale.

Reilly Taylor, a freshman from Cape Elizabeth, is on the swim team at Colby. He swam two races in the first meet of the year against Amherst. He swam a 1:06.63 in the 100-yard breaststroke to finish 5th. He swam a 54.74 in the 100 freestyle to finish 6th. The next Colby swim meet is December 2 at the Camel invite at Connecitcut College.

Molly Rice, a senior from South Portland, played two games as goalkeeper for the Colby field hockey team. In those two games she allowed just one goal. She made 14 saves for a .933 save percentage. She also plays for the women’s basketball team. They lost twice in the Babson Invitational.

Alice Evans, a freshman from Cape Elizabeth, is on the swim team at Colby. She races in the breast stroke and individual medley.

Sean Costigan, a freshman from South Portland, is a forward on the UMaine basketball team. The Black Bears are off to a 1-3 start.

Christopher Harmon, a freshman from Scarborough, ran for the UMaine cross country team this fall. His best finish was 12th. The team had one first place finish.

Jaymie Coulston, a freshman from Scarborough, was a goalkeeper for the UMaine women’s soccer team this fall. The team finished 14-4-2 and lost in the America East title game.

Brendan Amy, a sophomore from South Portland, will be swimming the backstroke for the UMaine swim team this winter.

Brian Smith, a sophomore from Scarborough, will be swimming freestyle for the Maine Black Bears’ swim team.

Laura Williamson, a freshman from Cape Elizabeth, will be diving this winter for the UMaine women’s swim team. They are off to a 3-2 start this season.

Justin Averill, a freshman from South Portland, will be throwing for the UMaine indoor track team. They start their season on Decmber 9 at the University of New Hampshire.

Charles Brydon, a freshman from South Portland, will be a thrower for the indoor track team this winter at UMaine.

Keith Corey, a junior from Scarborough, will be throwing this winter for the UMaine indoor track team.

Maxwell Ludwig, a sophomore from South Portland, will be hurdling for the Black Bears this winter on the indoor track team.

Rossi Kinney, a freshman from Cape Elizabeth, will be starring in several events for the UMaine indoor track team this winter.
