Democrat Mark N. Dion beat challenger Ted Blais of Standish, for the Cumberland County Sheriff title with 64.71 percent of the vote. Dion received 67,366 votes and Blais received 36,745.

“I think people looked at his accomplishments throughout the years,” said Dion’s campaign manager Dennis Herson. “His record had a lot to do with it.”

Dion expressed gratitude to the voters in Cumberland County as well as his staff.

“I am very pleased by the expression of support we received from the voters,” said Dion. “I am really pleased for the members of this office, with this victory. On behalf of all the folks that make up the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, I want to say thank you for supporting us, and my campaign.”

A Portland resident, Dion has been Sheriff for eight years.

Republican challenger Ted Blais could not be reached for comment.

Raymond voter David Hall works for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s office and voted for Dion.

“I work for Sheriff Dion,” said Hall, “and he has always done right by me.”
