State Sen. Barry Hobbins, the Sasco Democrat, defeated Charity Kewish by a healthy margin in the Senate District 5 race Tuesday. Hobbins received 9,550 votes to Kewish’s 5,823.
On Wednesday, Hobbins said he was “humbled and honored to be re-elected to the state Senate. I’m gratified and honored by the vote. It’s good to have a majority vote. It’s encouraging to know I can continue the work of moving Maine forward,” he added.
Hobbins said although voters defeated the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, the Legislature still needs to look at the way taxes are raised and how tax dollars are spent. “I would like to see an independent review of the overall priorities of state spending and do a management-cost analysis to be sure spending is in line.”
Kewish, the Republican, could not be reached for comment before deadline.
