The Scarborough Youth Football team upset the previously unbeaten and top-seeded team from Kennebunk on Sunday to win the Southern Maine Youth Football League Championship. The eighth grade squad held off Kennebunk by a 25-22 score.
The Red Storm grabbed a 19-14 lead by halftime and then held on defensively as the bigger Rams tried to rally in the second half of play. A late touchdown pass by Scarborough with five minutes left in regulation gave the Red Storm an insurance score that proved to be the difference.
In the left photo above, Scarborough linebacker Anthony Cofone (57) helped the Red Storm defense shut down the high powered Rams. And in the right photo, Scarborough quarterback Kyle Kelley looks to the sideline during the second half of play as he awaits a play call from the bench.
