Incumbent Tim Driscoll, a Democrat, defeated newcomer Tatia Munday in the race for the District 126 seat in the Maine House of Representatives. Driscoll defeated Munday, a Republican, 1,365 votes to 862.
Driscoll said late Tuesday night he wasn’t sure he would win until he heard the results, particularly with what looked to be a number of new registered voters.
“It leaves that uncertainty right until the very end,” he said. “Regardless whether you’re a new candidate or an incumbent, running a campaign for an election is a roller-coaster ride.”
Driscoll said he plans to continue the bipartisan work he did in his first term in the House. “As a Legislature, we need to be less partisan and more people for Maine,” he said.
Munday said she was pleased with the results, considering it was her first attempt at gaining a seat in the House.
She said her loss wouldn’t deter her from another go at politics in the future. “I really enjoyed it, and I think I can be successful,” she said. “It was a great experience. I met a ton of people in Westbrook.”
