My wife and I are longtime residents of the Hamlet Coach Park in Westbrook. This past Sunday my grandsons came to pay us a visit and, as we often do, we went to the park to hag a few flies and get a little practice for the boys.

We were surprised and, needless to say, extremely disappointed to find that someone had taken a car (which we heard was stolen) and done several “donuts” around the middle of the field. In the process, they managed to tear up the field to the point where it was both impractical and unsafe to use.

We understand that this is a live-and-let-live world, and there are people out there for whatever reason wish to get into mischief and do destructive things from time tot ime. We, as a family, are trying to nurture our children and grandchildren and teach them good social and human values through sports, including responsibility to others, teamwork and th value of hard work, to name a few.

We would like to ask those people who wish to do these destructive things to please take a moment and think of the effect it will have on others before doing them. Doing the same thing in a parking lot would help to vent whatever needs to be vented – and cause a lot less damage.
