Westbrook’s yard-waste collection program will run this year from Oct. 30 to Nov. 9.

The items that are eligible for collection and disposal are:

• Tree branches: 4 inches or less in diameter stacked butt-end at curbside. No large trees or stumps.

• Bagged leaves and grass clippings: The use of biodegradable bags is required for curbside collection. Residents should be sure that there is no animal waste mixed in with the leaves and grass. There is a 50-pound weight limit per bag.

• Brush: Stacked at curbside

• Garden debris: Biodegradable bags are required. Bags should be placed at curbside. Cornstalks stacked at curbside will also be collected.

There is a limit of one, 7-yard truckload of yard waste per residency. All waste categories to be collected must be separated.

Biodegradable leaf bags, required by the city, are available at Home Depot, Sportsman’s Hardware, Shaw’s and Hannaford supermarkets and Aubuchon Hardware.

A drop-off area will be set up at the Westbrook Public Services Facility at 371 Saco St. The facility will be open to receive yard waste Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m.- 4 p.m.

The disposal area will be open for leaves and brush during regular business hours, 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday. No plastic bags will be accepted at the drop-off facility. Only biodegradable bags can be placed in the leaf receptacle. The program is provided for Westbrook residents only, and proof of residency will be required (car registration, drivers license, or tax bill receipt).

This is not a program for household waste and/or clean-up items. Tree branches, brush and garden waste must be placed at curbside for collection on Oct. 30.

Bagged leaves must be placed curbside for collection on Oct. 30 and/or Nov. 6. No return trips will be made for these items.
