Patty Carton, founder of Riding To The Top, has been selected as one of five semi-finalists in the state of Maine for the fifth anniversary Volvo for Life Awards, Volvo’s national search for everyday heroes that gives out nearly $1 million in awards and funding each year.
Recipients are selected because of the work they are doing to help others in their community. Carton was nominated for her work in founding Riding to the Top and thus creating a true community enterprise that brings the healing power of horses to children and adults with disabilities to residents of six counties in Maine.
This year Volvo has selected five heroes from each state – out of more than 16,000 nominations they have received during the past five years. Now, the general public can vote for their favorite heroes from this group of more than 250 heroes.
The public has a chance to participate in selecting the finalists by casting an online vote. If Carton wins, Riding To The Top would be eligible to receive up to $50,000 in funding. Log on to http://www.volvoforlifeawards.com to vote.
Riding To The Top annually serves 250 children and adults with disabilities from more than 45 towns in Maine at its Windham farm and at its satellite site at Pineland Farms Equestrian Center.
