Volunteers are needed once again for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, which will take place on Sunday, Oct. 15, at Monument Square in Portland.
Every three minutes a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer. Thanks to advances in early detection and treatment – there is more hope than ever for people touched by breast cancer.
The Making Strides walk is more than just a one-day event. It’s about passion; it’s about prevention; it’s about survival; and it’s about remembering those died of the disease.
Last year more than 400,000 participants in 112 cities around the country raised more than $34 million to help fight breast cancer and provide hope to all people facing the disease.
To participate in this non-competitive, three-mile walk, which raises money to support breast cancer programs, patient services and research, go online to www.cancer.org/stridesonline.
To receive a team packet, or to volunteer to help with the walk, call the American Cancer Society at (800) ACS-2345. Sponsors of this year’s event include Anthem, Tanger Outlet and WCLZ 98.9.
