BOYS SOCCER
Coach: Harvery Toews, 1st season
Fall 2005 record: 4-8-2
How did last season end: Team was seeded ninth in the playoffs, beat Mountain Valley in the first round, then lost to Falmouth in round two.
Key veterans: Phil Ellis, Todd Shigo, Alex Toews, Jason Ward Burton, Aaron Chase, Cory Dunning, Tavish Leland, Joran Nichols, Joe Shaw, Dan Casey, Brandon Chase.
Key newcomers: Andrew Payne, Phil Leighton, Cody Leland, Jon Norris, Matt Langadas, Sam Maker.
Key concern: Keeping everybody healthy and maintaining academic eligibility.
Coach’s outlook: Our core group of veterans have played together for at least three years in high school and five or six years through middle school and on travel teams. They have worked hard as a team and are making progress in our ability to play fundamentally sound soccer, communicate on the field, play a good possession game, attack as a group and play coordinated transition defense. I am very optimistic that we can improve our regular season record significantly and earn a higher seed for the playoffs. If we have the good fortune to qualify, I believe this team has the talent to move deep into the playoffs and have a successful post-season experience.

Key concern: We have a brand new goalie and backup. Both are good players, but this is their first year playing.
Coach’s outlook: We have eight returning seniors and an all-state player in ZZ Leighton, so we have a great outlook. This is This is by far the most talented team we’ve had at Lake Region. We’ve also brought up four freshman to the varsity and three of them are already starting because of the skills they have. It’s a compliment to the developmental teams here.

CROSS COUNTRY
Coach: Dan Dors, 10th season
Key veterans: Boys: Zach Mains, Keegan Eldridge, Moe MacDougall, Chris Roy, Jake Moore, Tim Strain, Damon Scarlett, Mike Smith, Brandon Palmer, Kjell Jakobs. Girls: Tabitha Titzer, Jessica Titzer, Richelle Burgess, Moriah Borsetti, Meghan MaGuire.
Key newcomers: Boys: Mike Mayberry, Shep Hayes, Kevin Jamison, Ben Ferland. Girls: Hanna Fillmore-Patrick, India Bell, Nora Antonio, Rebecca Downs, Jess Hutchins, Chelsea Nee, Dina Reed, Darcy Johnson, Sarah Adams, Sidney Walker, Emily Rowbotham, Erin Rowbotham, Molly Shaw, Courtney Estes.
Key concern: We have to get our girls captain, Moriah Borsetti, back. She is sitting out early on with Achilles tendonitis. We lost the state champion Miles Bartlett and (another state meet competitor) Kevin Floster and two other seniors. This year there is not a senior on that team.
Coach’s outlook: Tabitha Titzer placed sixth in the state last year as a freshman and looks stronger than she did last year. If she stays injury free the sky’s the limit. She’s a very talented girl. When we get Moriah back and when our ten freshmen start to improve they are going to be very good and have an outside shot of qualifying for the states as a team. The boys, if they stay injury free, have a very good chance of making the states again.
