Key concern: “A lack of depth might hurt, but the players are working very hard. A lot of players will be expected to play on both sides of the ball.”

Coach’s outlook: “Each game every week is tough. We play in a very competitive conference. There are no easy opponents. If the team can stay healthy, we have a great shot of being competitive. We’ll be looking for all players to contribute.”

Boys Soccer

Coach: Tim Gillis (15th year)

Key veterans: “The entire varsity squad is back and all have very important roles this fall.”

Key newcomers: Mallory Driscoll, Stephanie Wagner

Key concern: “With only 15 players on the varsity roster, I am hopeful we stay healthy and fit for what I consider to be a very important year.”

Coach’s outlook: “Our team is still very young. All the players have a role in this squad. If they perform at the level they know they are capable of, very positive results will come their way.”

Field Hockey

Coach: Beth Murphy

Fall 2005 Record: 13-5

How did last season end: Lost to Bonny Eagle in the quarterfinals

Coach’s outlook: “This is a very dedicated and close knit group who know what their goals are, and that is to be one of the top teams in the SMAA. Our strengths will be speed on the forward line and a very talented midfield and defensive team. We cover all areas this year where last year we depended on certain individuals to carry us. This year is a total team effort and team chemistry will hopefully carry us there as long as we can stay healthy.”

Girls Cross Country

Coach: Suzanne Hussey (2nd year)

Fall 2005 Record: 2-12 regular season

How did last season end: Finished 11th at the regional meet

Key veterans: “Junior Keelin O’Connor led the team last year and will continue to run in one of the top positions again this year. Senior-captain Jen Robertson will round out the top three and is looking to have a very strong season after running 25 seconds faster than last years time in the SMAA Relay meet.”

Key newcomers: “Junior Jackie Cote will be a top runner for Westbrook as well as in the SMAA. Jackie clocked the 7th fastest time overall in the SMAA Relay meet. Juniors Amy McIntire and Leah Grabaz are great additions that should be among the top runners on the team. Freshman Kristle Doughty has some great potential and should be running in the top seven this season.”

Coach’s outlook: “We are looking forward to a strong season. The team has doubled in size from last year with 14 runners on the team. With the addition of some talented runners the Lady Blazes are looking to work hard all season in hopes to qualify as a team for the State Championship meet.”

Golf

Coach: Mark Luthe (2nd Year)

Fall 2005 Record: 2-8

How did last season end: “We had a young team and unfortually did not make it to states. It was a great group of kids that loved the game of golf and always wanted to learn the game.”

Key concern: “We are in a tough conference but I have high aspirations with this team. Cheverus is a tough team again this year.”

Coach’s outlook: “This will be another building year. We are only losing one senior, Adam Fenderson. We set our goals high for this season and I think my young team can pull through down the stretch. I look forward to working with these kids for many more years.”
