The number of developments by the Westbrook Housing Authority is now having a negative impact on private property within the city. Privately-owned rental units are having a much higher vacancy rate than ever before! Home sales have come to a standstill!
It’s time for the city to establish a committee to look over the Westbrook Housing Authority. Oversight and thought about the mission of the Westbrook Housing Authority seems to be nonexistent.
There are some concerns to be considered when it comes to the housing authority.
Do we need the Westbrook Housing Authority competing with the private real estate market for buyers?
Do we need employees of the Westbrook Housing Authority on our Planning Board?
Do we know if there is a market for all of this development by the Westbrook Housing Authority?
Is the cost of their developments justifiable to the taxpayers?
Does the Westbrook Housing Authority pay city property taxes when they take property off the market?
Why has the mission of the Westbrook Housing Authority appeared to have changed from their original aim of providing housing for our senior citizens?
These are just a few of the questions that need to be answered by the City Council.
