Windham Heritage Day

Maurice Whitten, author of “Gunpowder Mills of Maine,” will present a lecture and slide show at 7 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Windham Public Library. On Aug. 12, Windham Heritage Day, he will give a guided tour of the Gambo Gunpowder Mill site at 9:30 a.m. The Parson Smith House also will be open. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $18 or on the day of the event for $20, for children under 12 the cost is half price. You may purchase tickets at Corsetti’s Market or the History Museum. The proceeds of this event will benefit the Parson Smith House acquisition.

Kay Soldier had surgery July 25 at Maine Medical Center. She has returned home and is doing well. She has requested that instead of sending cards or flowers, even though they are appreciated, that people instead give food to the local food pantry.

Surprise Party

There was a surprise 60th birthday party for Gary Plummer July 22 given by his daughters, Sarah and Miranda. He was serenaded with props and lyrics adapted from the Lennon and McCartney song “When I’m 64.” This was designed to foster the maximum humiliation! There were about 30 party goers and his most memorable gift was a stuffed elephant with the name “TABOR” on its collar. This was a subtle hint from a constituent.

Veterans

Mr. Robin Shepard, state of Maine Veterans Advocate, will be at the Windham Veterans Center, located behind Hannaford in the Windham Mall on Aug. 9 from 9 to 11 a.m. He will assist veterans in applying for benefits. This service is free and no appointment is necessary.

Supper

A public ham and bean supper will be held Aug. 12 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Windham Hill Church. The donation is $6 for adults and $2.50 for children under 12.

Birthday

Lew Weatherby celebrated his birthday Aug. 2. He enjoyed dinner at Thatcher’s Restaurant with his wife, Joanne, and friends.

Reunion

Josie Morrell attended a combined classes reunion of Casco High School July 22. About 35 people enjoyed lunch at the Trailside Restaurant in Bridgton.
