Shaw meets Collins

Sen. Susan Collins recently hosted Laura Shaw of Gorham in her Washington, D.C. office. Shaw was in the nation’s capital to participate in LeadAmerica, a Congressional student leadership conference.

LeadAmerica’s mission is to transform the world’s next generation of leaders by educating, inspiring, and instilling in them ethical and principled leadership values, attitudes, and skills.

Neelon on dean’s list

Courtney Neelon has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I.

Neelon is a junior majoring in communications.

Lindeman on dean’s list

Amy Lindeman has been named to the dean’s list at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass., for the spring semester.

USM honors Gorham students

The University of Southern Maine has named several part-time students from Gorham to the dean’s list for the past academic year.

The students honored were: Scott R. Adley, Caleb J. Boulter, Celestino J. DaLuz, Angela M. Haslam, Nicole M. Herrick, David J. Homa, Lisa C. King, Jeffrey G. Lemay, Ruth E. Maston, Sandra Muehle, Catherine A. Nelson, Lisa M. Robinson, Jeffrey D. Shaw and Irrae J. Wincele.

Summer concert at the gazebo

Performing beach tunes ranging from Buffet to Belafonte, Rog & Ray will play from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the gazebo at the Municipal Center.

The performance is part of a free summer concert series sponsored by the Gorham Recreation Department.

Swing dance night

The Centre of Movement School of Performing Arts is hosting “Swing Dance Night” from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 28, at 19 State St. (Route 25).

Those wishing to participate do not need previous experience but are asked to bring their dancing shoes. Street shoes won’t be allowed on the dance floor.

The Bureau of Public Debt reported on Wednesday, July 19, that the U.S. public debt was $8,408,044,004,500.83.
