John Jack S. Archibald, 70

Partner of The Wise Group

John Jack S. Archibald, 70, died Friday, July 21, 2006.

He was born March 13, 1936, in Portland, a son of Herbert and Cora (Morton) Archibald. John served in the Maine Army National Guard for two years. On Feb. 19, 1955, he married Esther Sferes and together they raised a family.

During his working years, he held various advertising sales positions with many different radio and media companies. As well, he worked in sales for uniform distribution companies. He founded and ran Archer Advertising, and later was a partner of The Wise Group. Following his retirement, he enjoyed spending his winters in Zephyrhills, Florida.

Jack was a member of the Portland Elks Club, and a Past President of the South Portland Jaycees.

He was predeceased by a sister, Grace Eldridge.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Esther; a special mother-in-law, Martha Sferes; his two children, Vickie and her husband Jeff McGovern of Standish; and David and his fiance Cathy Croto-Vezina of Windham; two brothers and two sisters, Elizabeth and her husband Ivan Warden of Westbrook, Herbert and his wife Doris Archibald of Westbrook, Mae Supinski of Ohio, and Alfred LeBeau of Ohio; and five grandchildren, Michael McGovern of Portland, Kelly McGovern of Portland, Joseph Archibald of E. Waterboro, Jonathan Archibald of E. Waterboro, and Christopher Archibald of Waterboro.

Visiting hours will be from 10-11 a.m., Thursday, July 27 at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland, followed by an 11 a.m. Memorial Service. Burial will be at Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland.

Lillian E. Ferland, 90

Active church member

Lillian E. Ferland, 90, formerly of East Waterboro, died Saturday, July 22, 2006, at the Barron Center in Portland.

Born in Castle Hill on Jan. 20, 1916, she was one of nine children born to James and Mary Ellen (Kennedy) Richardson. She was a graduate of Mapleton High School. For a period of time, she was a governess for Dr. Boone in Orono. Mrs. Ferland was also in charge of the school lunch programs at Little Falls and White Rock Schools for several years. She was also a pastry chef for several religious summer camps for children.

For most of her life, she was a devoted wife to Albert Ferland Sr. and mother of two sons and two daughters. Mr. Ferland died in 1975.

She loved flowers and had a passion for cooking, even winning a blue ribbon at the Presque Isle Fair for her apple pie at age 16. For several years, she was a member of the Rebekahs in Skowhegan. Throughout her children’s young lives, she was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Little Falls. Religion was very important to her. Mrs. Ferland was always very kind and willing to help anyone she could. She participated in canvassing for the Cancer Fund in her community. She will be missed very much.

Surviving her are two daughters, Mary Ellen Jondahl of Acton and Joyce Towns and her husband, Mike of Waterboro; two sons, Albert Lefty Ferland Jr. and his wife, June of Parsonsfield and Kennedy Bill Ferland and his wife, Sandra of Hallowell; three grandsons, Barry Jondahl and wife Kimberly of Grafton, Wis., Brian Ferland and fiance Julie of Windsor, and Andrew Ferland and wife Kathaleen of Melborne Village, N.H.; five granddaughters, Michelle Germaine and husband Mike of Westbrook, Julie Locke and husband Peter; Angela Taylor and husband Gary, and Andrea Webster and husband, Bruce, all of Porter, and Adele Sears and husband Craig of West Newfield; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 2006, at South Buxton Cemetery, Buxton. Arrangements are under the direction of Dolby and Dorr Funeral Chapel, Gorham.

Margaret Eldora Lamb, 83

Lifelong resident of Buxton

Margaret Eldora Lamb, 83, of Long Plains Road, died on Thursday, July 20, 2006, at the Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Buxton on Feb. 13, 1923. She was the only daughter of seven children born to Thomas and Lillian (Smith) Walsh. A life-long resident of Buxton, she attended Buxton schools. She married her loving husband, Charles Lamb Jr. on Dec. 29, 1945.

For most of her life, she was a devoted wife and mother of two daughters. She did however, work outside the home on a few occasions including jobs at the Limerick Mills, and later at a local Bar Mills restaurant.

She combined two of her passions, church and children, by teaching Sunday school at the Grace Family Church in Waterboro. She also showed her devotion to the church by serving as Treasurer. Although her failing health prevented her from playing a more active role in church, she became a member of the Bar Mills Community Church where she made many friends.

In her spare time she mostly enjoyed being with her family, and especially loved and enjoyed spending time with her five great-grandchildren. Prior to her great-grandchildren entering her life, she spent her earlier years relishing her five grandchildren. She was a great cook, and was known for her date filled cookies. She also made the best mashed potatoes, and was always asked to make them for Thanksgiving dinner.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband Charles J. Lamb Jr.; and five brothers: Elmer Willy Walsh; Thomas Bud Walsh; Herbert Herbie Walsh; Floyd Walsh; and Francis Smith.

She is survived by two daughters: Patricia Wales and her husband Erwin of Buxton; and Mary Haynes and her husband Larry of Hollis; a brother: Clayton Walsh and his wife Ella of Buxton; five grandchildren: Angie DesRuisseaux; Pam Haines; Chuck Holding; Kristi Haynes; and Kelly LePage; five great-grandchildren: Reid and Libby DesRuisseaux; Alexis Wentworth; and Allison and Hunter LePage; and many other relatives and friends.

Raymond L. Chase Jr., 80

Lifelong Boston Red Sox fan

Raymond L. Chase Jr. 80, died Friday evening July 21, 2006, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born in Windham on April 4, 1926, the son of Raymond Sr. and Mary Wilson Chase. He was educated in Portland Schools before entering the service and serving in World War II.

Raymond was married to his wife, Amelia Mae, Nov. 4, 1950, for 40 years prior to her passing in 1991. He was employed at Burnham Morrills for 30 years before his retirement in 1983. Raymond spent his spare time lake fishing, and having cookouts with his family at their camp on Deer Pond. He enjoyed watching boxing, and was a life long Boston Red Sox fan.

Raymond was predeceased by his wife Amelia Mae; five sisters and one brother. He is survived by four children: Linwood and Lynn Chase of Alfred; Pamela O’Leary of Scarborough; Stephen and Jennifer Chase of Old Orchard;, and Christine Hillman-Chase of Gorham; two sisters: Maxine Smith of New Hampshire; and Geraldine Marrone of Windham; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Allan Lee Trout, 85

Affectionately known as Uncle Al

Allan Lee Trout passed away July 18, 2006, at M.M.C. after a long health struggle.

Allan, affectionately known as Uncle Al was born in Eagles, Pa., Aug. 12, 1920, the son of Leroy and Emily Trout. He grew up in Trenton, N.J. until he, his widowed mother, his brother Larry, and sister Dorothy moved to Scarborough in 1938.

He joined the Army in 1940. He trained in the Coastal Artillery. He was sent to the Panama Canal zone. The Army realized he was wonderful working with animals so they had him work with horses that were used to clear gun placements.

Upon his discharge in the late 1940s, he met and married Catherine Hess. They bought a home in Thornton Heights, where they lived until 2005. They then moved to Westbrook to live with their nephew Dave and his wife, Debbi Trout.

Uncle Al was a very quiet person, however when he spoke it was always with great foresight and wisdom.

He was loved and respected by all who had the pleasure to know him, especially by his brother Larry; nieces Robin Coffin, Marsha Caufield, Beth Webster, and Karen Morton; his nephews, David Trout, Stephen Nickerson, Buddy Knowles, and their families.

Uncle Al you are going to be sadly missed by all, especially by Dave when he’s looking for a Chess partner, and Debbi who loved to see you smile.

Allan is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Catherine. He is predeceased by his mother, Emily and father, Leroy; his sister, Dorothy Nickerson; brother-in-law George; and sister-in-law Donna Trout.

Antonio Tony J. Amoroso, 89

Cherished family time

Antonio Tony J. Amoroso, 89, longtime resident of Munjoy Hill and Deering Center, died Friday, July 21, 2006.

He was born August 12, 1916 in Portland, a son of Francesco and Vicenza (Lombardi) Amoroso. He attended Portland Schools, and graduated from Portland High School.

During World War II, Tony worked in the Shipyards helping to build Liberty Ships. He then went to work for Century Tire, and later retired as a Dispatcher for Hemingway Trucking.

Tony was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. His family was the light of his life, and he cherished times spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Anna (Bennett) Amoroso in 1999.

Surviving are his children: Francis and his wife Elizabeth of Limerick; Vincena and her husband Norman Stevens of Midway Park, N.C.; Anthony and his wife Susan of Fayetteville, Ga.; James and his wife Ann of So. Portland; Joseph and his wife Susan of Cumberland; Paul and Julie of E. Holden; and Michael of Portland; one sister, Sr. Mary Natalie Amoroso, R.S.M of Portland; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Blanche Ruth Grant, 90

Enjoyed cards, whist parties, birds

Blanche Ruth Grant, 90, of Liza Harmon Drive, died at the Pine Point Nursing Center in Scarborough on Friday, July 21, 2006.

She was born in Buxton, the daughter of Horace and Margaret Wilson Palmer. She attended Buxton Schools. In 1939 she married Leroy Grant, he died in 1981.

Blanche was a lifelong homemaker who enjoyed playing cards, whist parties, and feeding the birds.

She was predeceased by her husband; a brother; eight sisters; and two sons.

Blanche is survived by her son, Harvey Grant and his companion Betty of Porter; and a daughter Nancy Kimball and her husband John of Westbrook; one granddaughter; five grandsons; and seven great-grandchildren.

There will be no visiting hours. Services will be private. Burial will take place in the South Buxton Cemetery, Buxton. Arrangements are by Dolby & Dorr Funeral Chapel, Gorham.

Died in a motorcycle accident

Dale Scot Zeke Carver, of Brown Street, died Friday, July 14, 2006, as a result of a motorcycle accident. He was born in Portland, a son of Richard Zeke and Maxine Carver. He was raised in South Portland. Zeke worked on having a wild and crazy life.

He was predeceased by his stepfather, Wilbur Withers. He is survived by his mother, Maxine Withers of South Portland; ex wife, Jean Carver; a son and best friend, Joshua Carver of Westbrook; daughters: Melissa Carver, boyfriend Derek Emmons and Zeke’s granddaughter, Maya Emmons; Jody Vaillancourt and son Nick Shaw; brothers Richard of South Portland, Darryl of San Francisco, Calif., Denny of Windham, Deary of Portland; sisters Denise and Phil Mello of Litchfield, Darlene Carver and Larry Falkner of Portland; nieces and nephews; cousins; and lots of friends.

Lillian R. Connors, 87

Longtime communicant

Lillian R. Connors, 87, of Allen Avenue, passed away July 20, 2006, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was born in Framingham, Mass., a daughter of Andrew and Mary McIntyre Wells.

As a young girl, she and her family moved to Portland. At age 21, she married John J. Connors, and began raising a family that would eventually consist of eight children. She was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Portland, and was active in setting up for the weekly mass at Northfield Green. She enjoyed knitting, shopping and playing beano.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, John J. Connors in 1970 and a son, James Michael in 1980.

She is survived by seven children: John of Portland; Edward and his wife Donna of Portland; Joseph and his wife Sharon of Gorham; Mary Heal and husband Douglas of Windham; Robert of Portland; Ann Michaud and husband Richard of New Gloucester; Barbara Moody and husband Timothy of Cumberland; she is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Linda Ann (Marshall) Eberle, 58

Fought bravely against cancer

Linda Ann (Marshall) Eberle, 58, of Portland passed away on July 18, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Berlin, N.H. on Feb.19, 1948, the daughter of Dominic and Glovenia (Voss) Rossetti.

She was educated in Portland schools, graduating from Deering High School in 1966.

For the past several years, Linda was employed as an Admitting Rep. at McGeachey Hall, Maine Medical Center. She especially enjoyed meeting and working with the patients and her caring and empathy were apparent to all.

Linda was a free spirit who enjoyed the beach, camping with her partner, David Bonaparte, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, Andrew and Ayden.

Linda’s love of young people and of volunteering in her community is evidenced by her years as a coach of the varsity cheerleaders at Portsmouth High School in New Hampshire and her tireless involvement with community through the Portland Jaycee Women and the Maine State Jaycee Women. Linda touched the hearts and souls of everyone who knew her.

Linda is predeceased by her father, Dominic Rossetti Sr. and her son, Jeffrey Rainey in 2002.

She is survived by her mother, Glovenia Rossetti of Gorham; her brothers, Joseph Rossetti of Westbrook and Dominic Rossetti Jr. of Gorham; her loving partner of 12 years, David Bonaparte; her daughter, Jennifer (Rainey) Hamelin and her husband Shawn and grandson Andrew of Riverview, Fla.; her grandson, Ayden Rainey of Exeter, N.H.; four nieces; two nephews; two great nieces and one great nephew.
