Farrar plans community project

Gorham High School senior Ben Farrar discussed his plans for a summer community service project with Gorham Town Manager David Cole on Friday.

“I’m refurbishing a maintenance building at the North Street Cemetery on Route 114,” said Farrar, who is undertaking the job as an Eagle Scout project.

Cole signed the paperwork, approving Farrar’s plans. “He’s a great kid, very smart and responsible,” Cole said.

Farrar, a Gorham High School senior, is a member of Boy Scout Troop 817.

Boutilier White House guest

Mickey Boutilier of Gorham, founder and former president and chief executive officer of Special Olympics Maine was a dinner guest at the White House July 10.

President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush hosted a tribute dinner to honor Special Olympics. Former presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, as well as his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton attended.

“Mr. Boutilier is thrilled to have this opportunity”, said Lisa Bird, public relations director for Special Olympics Maine. “What a great honor, not only to be invited, but to see Special Olympics honored in such a way.”

Recording artist Rascal Flatts entertained following the dinner.

Goodrich earns first honors

Grant S. Goodrich has been recognized with first honors on the dean’s list for the spring semester at Clark University in Worcester, Mass.

Grant is a member of the class of 2008.

Clements on dean’s list

Meghan Clements has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass.

Fearon excels academically

Katherine Fearon has been named to the dean’s list at New England College in Henniker, N.H., for the spring semester.

Fearon is a sophomore.

College honors for Bem

Greg Bem has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I.

Bem is a junior majoring in creative writing and English.

Common Ground Band in concert

Common Ground Band will play in a free concert on Tuesday, July 25, at the gazebo on the lawn at the Municipal Center on Main Street.

The concert is part of a summer series sponsored by the Gorham Recreation Department.

Church fair reminder

The “Mid-Summer Show and Crafters Fair” will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, at the West Gorham Union Church.

The church’s Ladies Circle sponsors the event.
