One of the more eagerly awaited events of the summer in the Lakes Region is the bi-annual Naples Library Benefit House Tour. This year, the tour of 10 lovely homes in the town of Naples will be held on Thursday, July 27.
If this year’s tour were said to have a “theme” it would have to be one of “real life in Naples today.” Home owners have opened their houses to visitors on this day to help raise funds for the library’s many programs and services.
Famed for its many beautiful lakes and ponds, Naples has long been a major attraction for those who love the water. This year the tour will let participants see what life is like in a home on the water, not only on majestic Sebago, but also on scenic Long Lake and on quiet secluded Peabody Pond where one can imagine what it would be like to live on one’s own “On Golden Pond.”
Mountain Views are also spectacular from many points in Naples. This year two lovely homes at the summit of Madison Heights will offer stunning views of the surrounding countryside and Mount Washington in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. And as Naples is known for its hospitality in hosting numerous summer visitors, three of the town’s bed and breakfasts (The Augustus Bove House, The Inn at Long Lake and the Lamb’s Mill Inn) have also agreed to throw open their doors to treat tour goers to a glimpse of their comfortably appointed guest rooms.
As a wonderful addition to this year’s tour, Betsy Golon of Common Folk Farm is serving refreshments in her garden with a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party theme. The herb and perennial gardens at the farm will be decorated, a croquet course set up, lemonade and cookies will be served and Alice and the Queen of Hearts will be there to preside over the “White Rabbit” table – a special sale of unique one-of-a-kind items from the farm. Reinhard Farms greenhouses are just across the street from the farm as well.
The Naples Golf and Country Club will have a special “House Tour Lunch” available for purchase that day.
Tickets for the tour are priced at $20 per person and are available at the Naples Public Library. Tickets can be purchased in advance or on the day of the tour. For more information, please call the library at 693-6841.
