Postal worker honored at retirement party

Frederick Anthony was honored at a retirement party hosted by his family on June 4 at Rivermeadow Golf Course.

Anthony retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years. He also served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force.

Forty people attended the gathering with some guests traveling from as far as Canada. Some of Anthony’s former colleagues from the post office also attended.

His wife, Mary, baked the cake, which had a baby picture on one side and a military picture on the other side. He received a variety of retirement gifts, which included, a medical alert watch, money clip, money and numerous gift certificates. His immediate family presented him with a trip to Nova Scotia on the Cat.

Izabela Anthony Molina made her first trip to Maine on June 2 to attend her grandfather’s retirement celebration. While she was present at the party, reports said she slept through the entire event.

She was born on March 14 in Miami, Fla. She weighed eight pounds and nine ounces and was 21 inches long. Izabela’s parents are Dorothy (Anthony) Molina, an art teacher, and Yoel Molina, a lawyer.

They live in Miami.

Wohl on dean’s list

Regina G. Wohl has been named to the dean’s list for her outstanding academic achievement for the spring semester at Colby College in Waterville.

Wohl, who attended Westbrook High School, is a sophomore majoring in sociology. She is the daughter of Daniel and Lisa Wohl.

Gouzie excels academically

Madison C. Gouzie, a sophomore, has been named to the dean’s list for outstanding academic achievement for the spring semester at Colby College in Waterville.

Gouzie attended Westbrook High School and is majoring in sociology at Colby. Gouzie is the son of Linda Gouzie.

Gilpatrick Babson graduate

Alicia J. Gilpatrick graduated on May 20 from Babson College in Wellesley, Mass.

Gilpatrick earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Officers complete F.B.I. course

Westbrook Police Department has announced that three officers completed the F.B.I. Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA) week-long command institute.

Capt. Thomas Roth, Sgt. Michael Nugent and Sgt. Shawn McDermott were presented certificates on June 30 from Westbrook Police Chief Paul McCarthy and Tom Stone, executive director of LEEDA.

The F.B.I.-LEEDA Command Institute is a dynamic, intensive and challenging five-day program specifically and uniquely designed to prepare law enforcement leaders for command level positions.

Indoor yard sale

The Salvation Army is having a two-day indoor yard sale 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, July 14, and Saturday, July 15, at 11 Bridge St., Westbrook.

Items include clothes, dishes, linens, toys and knickknacks. Donations will be accepted and all proceeds go to the women’s ministry.

Jazz series at Warren

The Warren Memorial Foundation, in partnership with the Cornelia Warren Community Association, is presenting a summer music series in the Warren Auditorium at Warren Memorial Library, 479 Main St.

Admission is free as a gift to the Westbrook community.

Cool Shade of Blue will present eight jazz concerts from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays in July and August. Concerts in July will be on 12, 19 and 26 and concerts in August will be on 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30. They will play jazz and swing music mostly in the style of Count Basie and Duke Ellington.

The Tony Gaboury Quartet will play cool jazz guitar in an evening concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12.

The concerts will be in the auditorium on the second floor of the Warren Memorial Library building, which has an elevator and air conditioning. This marks the third season of the free concert series.

Nunley national award winner

KC Nunley of Raymond, a student at Westbrook Regional Vocational Center, was awarded the secondary bronze medal in residential wiring on June 23 at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, Mo.

More than 4,700 students from every state competed in the championships in a variety of occupational and leadership categories.
