Editor,

Having participated in the Casco town meeting Wednesday night, I was encouraged by the turnout, civility and dispatch of the warrant by the town’s residents.

I commend Dave Morton, the Board of Selectmen and the various town committees for their diligence in trying to keep costs down as they struggle to maintain the levels of service and preparation for future expenditures needed here.

I was also shocked, though not surprised, to learn that the Democrat-inspired LD 1 legislation did a lot more than short-change SAD 61 by more than $1 million in school funding. It also reduced state revenue-sharing with our community to the tune of $125,000! Thank you Governor Baldacci and Senator Diamond!

I hope voters in all of SAD 61’s communities will sit up and take notice. What more reason do we need to replace the current administration in Augusta and to toss out the Democrats in the Senate and Legislature this November? What more reason do we need to pass the Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR)?

The time for change has come. Don’t let yourselves be bamboozled by the side issues that will be thrown our way as red herrings to distract us from the real issues of this election. It is all about our taxes, our economy and our futures this election season.

Everything else is fluff.
