Comments: “We had a tremendous season, led by our strong nucleus of seniors. We made great strides as a program and are ready to compete in Class A for a long time to come, thanks to the hard work of this group. We had quality wins against Deering, TA, Sanford and South Portland. We led league in home runs with five; had seven players hit over .300 with Matt Wahrer leading the team at .371; Kevin Chamberlain had 1.80 E.R.A and 41 K’s and was elected first-team all-conference.”

Coach’s comment: “We had another great season. The girls were terrific. The seniors graduated with a 66-14 record over the past four years. They will be greatly missed.”

Coach’s comment: “The players embraced the team concept and that led to a very successful season. The senior class has also led the change in the culture of the team from one that accepted low expectations to one that only accepts the best effort every day.”

Girls Lacrosse

2006 record: 10-6, won Class A state title

Season highlight: Being the No. 5 seed in the playoffs and beating everyone on the road, then winning the state championship

Coach’s comment: “I’m so proud of these girls and the fact that they never gave up and pushed themselves throughout the entire playoff run. They deserved to win that state championship.”

Magic numbers: 110 The number of seconds of sudden death overtime before Brittany White scored to lift Scarborough to their first state title.

Boys Tennis

2006 record: 6-6, lost in the Western Class A preliminary round

Season highlight: The No. 1 doubles team of Cory Prescott and Nate Gove making the all-SMAA second team.

Coach’s comment: “The season is best described as a roller-coaster ride. We started out 1-3 and then turned it around, winning five out of the next six matches. We finished the regular season losing our last two matches before bowing out to Gorham in the playoffs.”

Magic number: 5 The number of matches a doubles team has to win in one day to capture the SMAA doubles tournament. The team of Cory Prescott and Nate Gove made it to match number four before losing.

Girls Tennis

Season highlight: “The second doubles team of Amy Buttarazzi and Lindsey Libby was a surprise. They communicated well on the court and won more matches then expected in that position.”

Season highlight: “Winning the first meet of the season for our first win in Class A.”

Coach’s comment: “Our season was difficult due to weather and a slew of injuries or sickness to some of our top athletes. We improved throughout the season and turned in our best performances when it counted the most – at the conference meet and states. We had outstanding performances all year from our distance runners. The team will be stronger next year, as we have athletes returning from all classes that competed and scored at states.”

Magic number: 2 The place Taylor Burns finished in the race walk at the Nike Outdoor Nationals. Burns was undefeated for the season, including a win at the state meet.

Girls Track

Coach: Ron Kelly

2006 record: 9-0, won the conference and state championships

Season highlight: “Individual improvement and team records broken: Jess Schoppee in the javelin; Erica Jesseman in the 1600 and 3200; Kaitlynn Saldanha in the 800. Despite the bad weather, the team continued to perform.”

Seniors graduating: Megan Baird, Amber Bond, Jess Schoppee, Christina Cange, Benna Bradley, Rachael Mumm, Becky Sither, Jaymie Coulston, Karen Smith and Sarah Morin

Awards: MVP: Erica Jesseman; Coach’s Award: Jessica Mitchell

Coach’s comment: “This is our first Class A outdoor track title. We scored in 15 events at state meet to show the balance of the team. Kaitlynn Saldanha picking up the racewalk at the season’s end was critical to the team’s success at the state meet. Many gained confidence that will be critical to their development next school year.”
