The skies were cloudy but the faces were sunny Saturday as the Buxton Little League held closing ceremonies at Weymouth Park.

Trophies were presented to players in the town’s major, minor and T-ball leagues, and later that evening the major league held its championship game, with 3-D Variety winning the town title by topping Redding Oil, 4-3.

“The weather was difficult this season. We had a lot of rain,” said first-year league president Michele Seal. “Other than that it was fun, and I plan on doing it next year.”

Dressed in their colorful uniforms, players came up one by one to accept trophies. One T-baller, apparently making sure that the base of his award was solid, tested it by attempting to take a bite.

Sean O’Neill, Micah Tilman and Zac Cary received awards for demonstrating the best sportsmanship in the league this season.

Members of Buxton’s 9 and 10-year-old, 11-year-old and 12-year-old all-star teams were also announced. They will be competing in district play beginning as soon as this weekend.

Approximately 180 youngsters participated in the league this year.
