The Hawthorne Community Association is holding its Annual Strawberry Festival Saturday, July 8 at the Hawthorne House on Cape Road in Raymond starting at 6:30 p.m.

Guest speaker, Jim McAllister of Salem, Mass., will speak about the life and history of Nathaniel Hawthorne, who lived in Raymond during his boyhood. McAllister is a Salem historian, photographer and author of “Salem, from Nauskeag to Witch City.”

The lecture, which is free and open to the public, starts at 6:30 p.m. A strawberry shortcake social follows the lecture from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

There is a donation of $5 per adult and $3 for children under 8 for the strawberry shortcake, which organizers say is made with real dairy whipped cream. Beverages are included. Reservations must be made before July 1 at fchamb1@maine.rr.com or leave a message at 655-8833.
