Editor,

The Parson Smith House Committee of the Windham Historical Society would like to express heartfelt thanks to the voters of Windham for endorsing our idea of public access to this 18th century mansion.

Our work, acquiring the house and establishing a museum and visitors center, has been in progress since January, and involves three phases. Phase one, demonstrating community support, is done. Phase two, writing grants toward the purchase price of the house will begin right away. If this is successful within one year, then phase three will involve attracting donations and in-kind services to build a visitor’s center on site at the Parson Smith House. Fees derived from various historical programs at the center will help pay the expenses of ownership.

Please watch for announcements of our current fund raising campaign. The money will be used to pay for an appraisal of the house, and for the assistance of a professional grant writer.

Again, thank you Windham citizens for your confidence in our committee, and for supporting local history.
