Al’s Variety edged out Grass Catchers, 3-2, in the second round of the playoffs

In the first inning, Grass Catcher’s Ben Wessel hit a line-drive shot that hopped the outfield fence for a ground rule double. After two stolen bases, Wessel scored on a single by Teddy Quinn. Then John Cella doubled to drive Quinn in for the early 2-0 lead.

The top of the third inning saw Sam Vachon lay down an exceptional bunt to reach first, followed by a single from JD Herrman. Conor Mccann’s shot to left center bounced over the fence driving in Al’s first two runs.

David Conceison threw the majority of the game for Al’s and pounded the strike zone consistently, allowing only two hits. Jared Bell came in during the sixth inning to close and registered two strike outs.

Al’s Variety 7, Fire Department 0

Al’s Variety advanced to the second round of the American League playoffs with a 7-0 victory over the Fire Department.

Al’s was lead by an outstanding personal performance by Conor McCann, who broke the game open with a grand slam in the third inning.

McCann, along with JD Herman and Jared Bell in relief, held the Fire Department in check from the mound.

Kolbey Adams pitched well in defeat, allowing only two hits and just one earned run.

David Conceison threw the majority of the game for Al’s and pounded the strike zone consistently, allowing only two hits. Jared Bell came in during the sixth inning to close and registered two strike outs.

Week Eight

Michaud Distributors 9, Lions 4

Michaud Distributors clinched first place by defeating the Lions, 9-4.

Joe Cronin got the win for Michaud, pitching He 5 1/3 inning while allowing two hits and no earned runs, striking out eight. Johnny Passarelli closed the game for Michaud.

Offensively the team was led by John Gonzalez who had three hits including two doubles and three RBIs. Cronin had a double and a single with one RBI and Passarelli singled twice, driving in one.

For the Lions, Jeff Sirocki pitched well. Andrew Jones scored two runs and used his speed to reach base three times on a walk, an infield single and an error. Keegan Simons also singled for the Lions.

Pine State 7, Fire Department 6

Pine State used solid fielding, along with four solid innings of pitching from Matt Cushing to squeak past the Fire Department.

Pine State used a couple hits and errors by the FD to score the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Offensively, the Fire Department got two hits by Scott Merrill, Kolbey Adams and Kellen Smith. Smith and Adams each had a double.

Pine State hits were provided by Thibeault, Greg Viola, Nick Morris and Cushing.

Week 7

Pine State Energy 6, Royals 4

Pine State Plumbing & Heating defeated Royal Flush, 6-4, on Monday, June 5 at Peterson Field in a closely contested defensive battle.

Royal Flush jumped took the lead in the bottom of the first, as runs were scored by Austin Downing and Adam Cohen, partially thanks to single by Anthony Dibiase.

Pine State wasted no time responding, coming up with four runs in the top of the second. Dan Emma, Dalton Morris, Matt Cushing and Michael Tudor all scored to take a 4-2 lead.

Cohen scored again in the third to bring Royal Flush within a run. Single runs were scored by each team in the fourth, thanks to a double by Adam Ek, scoring Matt Gedaro for Pine State, and a triple by Dibiase, who then scored on an errant throw to third.

Pine State added an insurance run in the sixth, as Greg Viola scored thanks to a Nick Morris single. Royal Flush was held scoreless in their half of the sixth, with Viola making a great diving stop on a hard hit groundball to force the runner at second.

Cushing and Emma pitched well for Pine State, as did Matt Hartl and Ryan Collins for Royal Flush.

Lions 10, Al’s Variety 2

The Lions and Al’s Variety squared off on Monday night, June 5 in a game that was rained out from May 13.

The Lions opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first, scoring twice after Keegan Simon’s double plated Erik Anson and Jeff Sirocki. The Lions added runs in the third, foruth and fifth innings, while holding Al’s to two runs in the top of the sixth.

Andrew Jones pitched into the fifth inning for the Lions and Zack Frizzle closed the game with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Al’s pitcher David Conceison also pitched an great game, holding the Lions at bay until late in the game, recording six strikeouts. Mitchell Rand relieved Conceison to complete the game.

The Lions offense was paced by Keegan Simon, who went 4-for-4, and Andrew Jones, who had three hits. In addition, Lion’s Erik Anson and Jack Rousselle each had two hits, scoring three runs each.

Al’s offense was supplied by David Conceison and Conor McCann who both had hits.
