It took an extra week, some umbrellas and an unexpected drive up the coast, but Scarborough and South Portland finally completed their track season Saturday at Bowdoin College.

The Class A state championship, originally scheduled to be held a week prior at Thornton Academy, was postponed after one event, pushed back a week and moved north.

Scarborough’s boys squad finished ninth with 34 points, while South Portland was 12th in the 27-team field with 21 points. Lewiston won the meet with 82.5.

Taylor Burns earned the Red Storm their only first place medal, finishing the 1,600-meter race walk in a time of 7 minutes, 17.78 seconds. Burns finished more than 11 seconds in front of runner-up Allen Cox of Bonny Eagle.

Ben Talbot took third in the 1,600m run with a time of 4:32.61. He also teamed with Henry Prosack, Brecht Moulin and Chad Decker to help Scarborough finish fourth in the 4 x 800 relay, the lone event completed before the meet was suspended the previous week.

Travis Griffin earned the Red Storm four points with his fourth place finish in the 3,200. Griffin battled a tight pack the entire race, finishing with a time of 9:51.81.

Scarborough received sixth-place points from Prosack in the 800m and freshman Brad Nakanishi in the pole vault. Nakanishi cleared 11-feet-3 to finish as the top freshman in the event.

Thomas McCoubrey was South Portland’s top finisher. McCoubrey threw 49-02, good for second place in the shot put.

Alex Gato brought home two third-place medals for his performances in the high jump and pole vault. Gato cleared 6-2 in the high jump, equaling the jumps of both the first and second place finishers. However, he required more attempts to clear the height.
