Key Bank hosts Gorham Business and Civic Exchange
Key Bank in Gorham hosted a June Social for the Gorham Business and Civic Exchange Thursday evening.
To take the “stress out of banking,'” Jennifer Valentine, a licensed massage therapist, was on hand for complimentary massages. She recently set up shop at the Old Richardson House on Route 25, Main Street, in Gorham.
About 50 members, guests and other business associates attended the event.
“I’ve been wanting to have an open house for a while now,” said Key Bank Manager Walter McCallister.
Valentine had her hands full as guests waited patiently to have a complimentary massage. “She never had an empty chair,” said Dana Redmond, executive director of the exchange.
Dostie university graduate
Rachelle Dostie graduated from Johnson and Wales University in
Providence, R.I., in commencement ceremonies last month.
Dostie received a bachelor’s degree in computer graphics and new media from the university’s school of technology.
6 receive Husson diplomas
At commencement exercises in May, six Gorham students were awarded diplomas from Husson College in Bangor.
The students are Tracy Dame, who graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in business administration; Kristina E. Dwyer, a bachelor of science in biology; Cathleen Farmer, magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in paralegal studies; Wendy L. Flowers, summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in accounting; Mark E. O’Donnell, magna cum laude with a bachelor of science in computer information systems; and Tara-Lee Rich, summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in computer information systems.
Graduation on mom’s birthday
Mathew and Stephanie Drouin both graduated from the University of Maine in Orono on May 13, their mother’s birthday.
Parents of the two graduates are David and Lisa Drouin, who said it “made for a very special day.”
Mathew Drouin graduated magna cum laude. He received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and computer engineering. He also graduated with high honors from the honors college.
A graduate of Gorham High School in 2001, he is a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Etta Kappa Nu. He is currently working for Allegro Microsystems as an electrical design engineer in Manchester, N.H.
Stephanie Drouin received a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in management and a minor in psychology.
She was a peer mentor for the University’s Business Department and was on the dean’s list for both the fall and spring semesters. She graduated from Gorham High School in 2002.
Jenkins on dean’s list
Eileen Jenkins has been named to the dean’s list for the spring term at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.
Jenkins is a junior majoring in movement and sports studies.
Foley earns honors
Meghann Foley has been named to the dean’s list for the spring term at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.
Foley is a senior majoring in biology.
Gorham GOP invited
Calvin Hamblen is reminding Republicans in Gorham about the party’s Unity Day Cook Out from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, at Royal River Park on East Elm Street in Yarmouth.
The Yarmouth Republican Town Committee is hosting the event. The cost is $5, $10 per family.
Woman’s Club installs officers
The spring meeting of the Gorham Woman’s Club took place on May 18 at IHOP Restaurant in South Portland.
The club installed officers for 2006-2007. They are Nancy Kenty and Alice Keddy, co-presidents; Deborah Jones, vice president; Brenda Caldwell, recording secretary; Nancy Taber-corresponding secretary and Gloria Tewhey, treasurer.
The purpose of the Gorham Woman’s Club is to bring together women of all ages, interests and experience who are interested in community betterment. The Club members participate in at least two fundraising projects each year. This year, the club supplied books and bags to 3-5 year olds at the Baxter Memorial Library on May 25. This was part of the Club’s children’s literacy program.
Other projects include: awarding scholarships to Gorham High School students, providing Kind News newspapers to 15 elementary grades and supporting art in schools by providing four Gorham High school art contest awards. This year, Sarah Shaw received the state award of $175.
Enrollment in the club is open to anyone wishing to become an active volunteer and guests are always welcome to all meetings. For more information about the club, contact Alice Keddy at 839-4579.
Bean-hole bean supper
An authentic bean-hole bean supper will be held 4:30-6 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, at the United Church of Christ at North Gorham, 4 Standish Neck Road.
Tickets are $7, $3.
Park ceremony rescheduled for fall
Cindy Hazelton, director of Gorham Recreation Department, said last week that the official grand opening for Shaw Park has been postponed to September.
The recent rains canceled attempts for the ceremonies on the past two Saturdays. The official opening will coincide with Gorham’s first ever Fall Foliage Festival, Hazelton said.
But the park is open to the public. It is accessed by Partridge Lane off Sebago Lake Road (Route 237). For more information, call Gorham Recreation Department at 839-5034.
Indoor yard sale
The North Scarborough Grange is sponsoring an indoor yard sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, at the Grange Hall on Route 22 in North Scarborough.
The sale, which includes baked goods, will benefit the scholarship fund. Barbara Griffin said the sale would have something for everyone and sandwiches will be available.

The Bureau of Public Debt reported on Thursday, June 8, that the U.S. public debt was $8,374,238,708,188.71.
