Editor,
According to the Taxpayer’s Network of Wisconsin, Maine again has grim news. This state is ranked highest in the nation for tax burden when figuring in local and state taxes.
Maine also has the fourth highest per capita debt for welfare expenditures, which has increased 33 percent in 10 years. The fifth highest growth rate in the nation.
I guess we should not be surprised. We have been a tax and spend state for ages, and although every election time there is always rhetoric about the need to cut spending, who actually does it?
I, for one, am against the state recently spending $12 million with the Land for Maine’s Future. I am not against preserving the environment. However, if environmentalists want to preserve areas, then raise the money and donate it to the state to do such. The state should not be using taxpayer money for such things. There are better priorities, like healthcare and education.
As an Independent write-in candidate for Governor, I have put together a 10-10-160 Plan that would involve cutting state spending and reducing the state’s poverty levels by 10 percent each.
It is time that someone steps up and fights for the everyday taxpayer. I am willing to make that fight.
Take a stand. Make a change. See a difference.
