Editor,

I missed this year’s Memorial Day ceremonies in my hometown of Windham, but several friends and neighbors told me how upsetting it was when someone running for town council was handing out literature and “working the crowd”.

In my opinion, political campaigning at Memorial Day services, including before or during the parade, is totally disrespectful to the families in attendance, and to the sacrifices and memories of their beloved military.

I call it especially disrespectful to those veterans we are fortunate enough to call neighbor and friend, some of whom were present. Just one more example of the loss of old-fashioned etiquette and appropriate behavior.
