Following last week’s arrest of two Bonny Eagle High students on burglary and theft charges, Buxton police said on Tuesday they are anticipating charging another suspect in connection with these cases.

Officer Paul Rubashkin of the Buxton Police Department said that two burglaries occurred on May 11 at neighboring properties on Gillette Road with another burglary on May 22 on Churchill Road.

Rubashkin and deputies from Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department arrested Bonny Eagle High School students Andrew S. Legere and Derek Bean, both 18-year old Standish men in Standish on May 22 following an alleged burglary on Churchill Road in Buxton. “Both were arrested without incident,” Rubashkin said.

Legere and Bean were arrested on charges of burglary and theft, according to Capt. Don Goulet, a detective with Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department.

Neither Legere nor Bean has a prior record, Goulet said last week. He said the two were cooperating with police, which could lead to other arrests.

Chief Jody Thomas of Buxton Police Department said Tuesday both suspects are out on bail. She said arraignment dates for Legere and Bean are pending.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department has linked the two suspects with a rash of burglaries in York and Cumberland counties. The sheriff’s department believes 10 burglaries were resolved last week following the two arrests in addition to recovering property police said stolen.

Goulet said last week that a string of nine burglaries in two weeks in Standish began on May 8. He said there were also four recent burglaries in Limington, two in Hollis and one in Gorham besides the three in Buxton.

Police said the items were stolen to buy marijuana and to fill gas tanks of cars. Police recovered items that they believed were stolen in burglaries in Standish, Limington and Hollis. The loot included hunting rifles, swords, knives, jewelry and DVD players. “It caused us a lot of headaches over two weeks,” Goulet said.

At 11:42 a.m. on May 22, Rubashkin responded to a report of a burglary on Churchill Road. A homeowner had interrupted a burglary in progress. Goulet said a woman saw a car that didn’t belong in her driveway and a man leaving with some of her property. She gave police suspect information and description of the car.

Buxton police shared the information with other agencies and Deputy Howard Brown of Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department stopped and detained Legere about an hour later in the parking lot at Bonny Eagle High School. Rubashkin made the arrest and obtained the name of the second suspect. Bean was arrested later at the Pine Tree Trailer Park in Standish.

Five agencies including Gorham, Maine State Police and York County Sheriff’s Department besides Buxton police and Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department are assisting in the investigation.
