Police in Buxton and deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department arrested two 18-year old Standish men Monday in connection with a rash of recent home burglaries in Cumberland and York counties.

Detective Donald Goulet of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday that the two men who were arrested, Andrew S. Legere and Derek Bean, were both students at Bonny Eagle High School.

Goulet said there has been a rash of home burglaries in Buxton, Standish and Harrison areas in the past two weeks.

Goulet said police are looking for additional suspects in this case. “We expect additional arrests as the investigation continues,” Goulet said.

The Sheriff’s Department also said approximately 10 burglaries were resolved by the arrests and seizures conducted Monday.

Goulet said Buxton police arrested Legere near Bonny Eagle High School about an hour after a woman in Buxton interrupted a burglary in progress at her home at about 11:30 a.m. on Monday.

Goulet said the suspects initially got away, but the woman made a note of the license plate number of the car they were driving and described the vehicle for police. Goulet said the plate matched that of someone police were already searching for.

After arresting Legere, investigators from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department and Buxton police used information gathered from that arrest to later arrest Bean in the Pine Tree Trailer Park in Standish.

The sheriff’s department said a number of firearms as well as stolen electronic items and miscellaneous personal property were recovered on Monday night. Deputies said the arrests and seizures conducted Monday resolved approximately 10 burglaries in the area.

A Sheriff’s Department report said investigators would be looking into at least a dozen other outstanding burglaries to see if there are any possible links to the suspects in custody.

The Gorham Police Department, the Maine State Police and the York County Sheriff’s Department are assisting the Buxton Police Department and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation.
