Hamblen calling on veterans

Town Councilor Cal Hamblen, a Marine, is urging veterans of all ages to turn out for Memorial Day activities on Monday, May 29.

The parade in the village will form up at 8:30 a.m. in front of Robie Gym on South Street. Following ceremonies at the Eastern Cemetery and at Phinney Park, another parade will get underway in South Windham.

A wreath will be placed in the Presumpscot River and a ceremony will be held at Hillside Cemetery on Huston Road.

Hobson graduates college

Ariel Hobson graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, Va., on May 14.

Hobson earned a bachelor of science degree in biology.

North Library open house

The public is invited to view North Gorham Public Library’s new technology at an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 27.

The library is located at 2 Standish Neck Road in North Gorham.

Shaw Park grand opening

The Gorham, Windham, and Standish Recreation departments have teamed up for the grand opening of Shaw Park on Saturday, June 3, on Partridge Lane off Route 237 (Sebago Lake Road).

The $1 million park was a gift to the town of Gorham by Danny and Jon Shaw of Shaw Brothers Construction.

Along the Presumpscot River, Shaw Park houses a baseball field, picnic tables, and Mountain Division trail access. Enjoy the fun on National Trails day, June 3 for numerous activities, including a 5K road race, trail bike ride, bike safety inspections, kayak demonstrations, a baseball game and field events.

Women’s golf clinic

The Gorham Recreation Department is sponsoring a six-week golf program for women that will cover the basics, from bunkers to strategies.

The cost is $60 and takes place Thursday nights from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Gorham Country Club. Session starts Thursday, June 1. Ladies only.

Juried art show for local artists

The University of Southern Maine Art Department and The Art Guru of Gorham are sponsoring a juried art show from July 10 through July 27.

The first juried community art exhibit, “Retinal Delights,” is for local artists in Gorham, Limington, Standish, Buxton, Sebago Lake Village and Windham.

Works should be no larger than 3 feet by 3 feet with second and third works accepted.

Those entering should drop off original work 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 26, 27 and 28 in Room 103, Kidder Lounge, USM Art Department in Gorham. Work will be judged on June 29. Pick-up for works not accepted will be on June 29.

A reception will be held from 1-4 p.m. on July 15.
