“Crime does not pay……as well as politics.” Alfred E. Neuman
I attended my first political convention a couple of weeks ago and what an educational and entertaining event it was. My only mistake was not attending both days but I received enough additional information from friends that I have made my decision on who to vote for in the Republican Primary in June. Yes, folks, I am proud to announce that the Woodcock for Governor sign is on my front lawn.
I have definitely decided not to vote for the present governor. I personally feel that he has destroyed the state of Maine. With our tax burden ranked No. 1 in the nation, our unfriendly business climate and this business of money being stolen from accounts other than their designated one shows me that a huge change must be made in Augusta. And it has to start in the Blaine House and continue over to the Legislature.
How much money is still missing from the Department of Health and Human Services? $100 million or more? Why hasn’t the governor cleaned house in that department?
Last, and just as important, is all of this costly legislature that he has supported and signed that will cost us a fortune that we don’t have. What am I speaking about? Teachers’ raises, that’s what. Just a month ago the state released information that Maine had a 98 percent success rate for qualified teachers. Why, just before the election, does the governor propose such a huge increase in their salaries? To me, it certainly looks like a campaign to buy votes for himself and his party’s cronies.
Why not Senator Peter Mills or Rep. David Emery for governor? Two men without a vision and that’s not saying that they don’t have a plan. Too many years in government without a bold vision for us in Maine. With Mills it sounds like what we are doing now is right but that we have to do it better and for me that is not the solid change that we need. Emery talks of things that sound entirely like what a life-time politician would say. Yada, yada, yada.
Yes, if Woodcock does not win the Republican primary I would still vote for either Emery or Mills over Baldacci in the general election in November.
Chandler Woodcock clearly shows that he has a vision for us and the State of Maine. He has the fortitude and the willingness to turn the state of Maine around and lead us to a much better place. I totally agree with everything he stated when he made his speech at the Republican Convention on Saturday, May 6. I mean totally. He shows me that he has the leadership capable of leading Maine forward instead of into financial ruin.
And like they say in Chicago, get out in June to vote early and vote often.
