After months of soliciting signatures, gubernatorial candidate Philip Napier of Windham almost has enough signatures to get on the ballot this November.
Napier is running for governor to lower the voting age, abolish the state income tax, overhaul of Maine’s justice system and protect the rights of ex-convicts.
With only two weeks left, Napier is continuing to gather signatures around the region to push him over the 5,000 signatures needed to qualify for ballot status as an independent.
However, Napier encountered one setback when 400 signatures signed by Windham residents turned out to be from unregistered voters. Napier will be at the Windham Town Offices on Monday, May 22, for anyone who would like to register to vote and re-sign his petition.
And, as Napier likes to say, “Just because you sign your signature doesn’t mean you support me. It just means I get to throw my hat in the ring.”
